Kids, am I right? Having toddlers is a full-time job in addition to being a mom and, if you're a working mom, managing a career. When those toddlers are twins, it’s a whole different world of chaos. If you've had children before your twins, you might think you've seen it all, but you quickly realize you definitely have not.
I had three children before my twins, and let me tell you, those three did not prepare me for my last two! When we first found out we were having twins, my husband and I had a lot of worries. Would we have enough money? Would we have enough time? Would we have enough patience? We spent a lot of time contemplating these questions during those nine months, but by the time the day came for their arrival, we truly believed we could handle it—especially when we looked at their beautiful faces. Yes! We could totally do this!
Ya….
Let me first introduce you to my beautiful bundles of love and chaos.

These two angelic faces have given me more to cope with than anything I’ve ever experienced. Jade loves following rules—almost to a fault. She enjoys routine, and if something is done one way one day, it always needs to be that way. She is a big mama bear, always making sure everyone is okay. One of my favorite things about her is her transformation into "Dr. Jade." She spins around, just like a superhero would to change into their costume, and declares, “Dr. Jade is here!” It’s adorable! However, her temper tantrums are another story. This little girl's screams can be deafening! It’s enough to give you a headache daily, but her big brown eyes make up for it.
Jasmine, on the other hand, loves causing chaos. She has a contagious smile and an infectious energy that can make you laugh, cry, or rip your hair out in a matter of minutes. She is definitely a challenge. But she is also the one who needs the most love. She has stolen many cuddles in her times of need, curling up to you like a small puppy, showering you with affection. She gives kisses, especially when she “accidentally” hurts you. Jazzy has also cost us more in house damages than all four of the other kids combined, but I love her nonetheless.
My point is that we never saw any of this coming—at least I didn’t! My husband might tell you differently, but I had no idea twins would be as... patience-testing as they are. I guess I never understood what “double trouble” truly meant. Throughout these three years, I’d like to say I’ve grown a lot, and I’d like to think I did it on my own. The truth is, yes, I have grown immensely, but it was because of them.
They have taught me that:
- I tend to take on too much at once, and sometimes it’s okay to slow down. It’s not a race!
- Love is incredibly powerful. It can heal everything. In moments when I’ve had enough or just want to break something (and we’ve all been there—don’t deny it!), a hug or kiss from either of them washes away much of the frustration. It helps to know that no matter how mad I get, they always know that Mom loves them.
- Patience really is a virtue! If you can be patient with these two, you truly have a high moral standard and could probably accomplish anything!
Life with twins has been nothing like I could have ever imagined, but it is everything I had hoped for and more, even during the rough moments. To any parents considering having twins, make sure you are prepared! For those with baby twins, enjoy these moments! Take as many pictures and videos as you can; you will appreciate the reminders later. And for parents with toddler twins, it gets better. Remember, a hug from them can make a world of difference.
